History of the Cambridge BMX Club.

Cambridge BMX had its first meeting on 26th August 1981 and was loaned $200.00 to open a cheque account by Ross Todd Motors to form the club. One of founding members was Errol Nelson. He was an innovative and visionary man who had the philosophy of “bums on seats”, that is to get as many young riders participating in BMX as possible. Errol himself was a former World Champion (1985) and spent many hours with riders down at the track. Sadly Errol was killed in a jet skiing accident in 1998. Errol's legacy lives on, not only through the memories of members, but with the continued support from Errol’s wife Dawne and his family.

Over the years since the formation of the club, Cambridge has produced many NZ Champions and riders who have represented NZ at the Worlds with excellent results. We have been strongly represented in both male and female classes.

Cambridge BMX Club currently boasts 8 riders with #1 NZ Rankings
